Anybody else getting some crazy dry skin this winter? I usually like to use coconut oil as moisturizer, but this dry air has my skin needing something with a little more staying power. Soooo, it was time to whip up some simple body butter. I added in essential oils that I love to give it scent, but you don’t have to! It’s got a slight smell to it with the combo of cocoa butter and coconut oil, anyway, so if you do choose some oils to use, make sure they’ll work alongside those smells. Vanilla would be crazy amazing in this too.
This would be fun to make and give as gifts along with some essential oil bath salts and homemade soap! Orrrrr, get some friends together and have a little homemade cosmetics party! Any of my girls in? I think we shoulddd.
Anyway, here goes the recipe. Quick process and simple ingredients.
- 1/4 cup Coconut oil
- 1/4 cup Cocoa Butter
- 1/4 cup Shea Butter
- 50 drops of Essential Oils of your choice- I used cedarwood, peppermint, and tangerine
Melt all ingredients together over a double boiler to combine.
Pour melted ingredients into a glass bowl if you’re using an electric mixer or into the stainless steel bowl of your Kitchenaid mixer if that’s what you choose to use to whip up your body butter. Allow it to cool so that if you press a finger into it, it indents but doesn’t break.
Once cooled, whip with an electric mixer or Kitchenaid mixer with whisk attachment for 5-7 minutes. (I used my paddle attachment and it worked pretty well, but would’ve been better had I used a whisk attachment. )
When you pull the beaters out of the body butter, it should form stiff peaks. Scoop into a jar and keep at room temperature.
Use to treat your dry wintry skin. I like to load my tootsies up with it and put on some thick socks before bed.
